Bubbles
Rebekah has a new rule. "remember people have bubbles and you have to ask them before you pop them." Its a simple rule. Well today I told her she was forgetting about peoples bubbles and forgetting to ask before she "malled" them with hugs and kisses. She replied "yup, I even slept on your bubble last night." all matter of fact. I asked what that meant and she replied "I slept on the baby and the baby is growing in your other bubble" so I guess I have two bubbles and Rebekah does not care if she pops them...

little feelings
I woke up this morning to the feeling of a little one kicking. SO cool!! Soon I was joined by several chickens who wanted to "feel" the baby as well. I told each one that they might not be able to feel the baby just yet but it would feel like a very faint pulse. Brittany promptly felt and took several minutes to decide if she was in fact "feeling" the baby or just imagining...she responded with a very excited "I think I feel it!!" to which all the other chickens jumped at the opportunity to "feel" the baby. What an amazing thing to share with my kids. :)

Thursdays impending doom
If you hear a loud mourning sound on Thursday have no fear. Its a sound I have been dreading for quite some time. It is the sound of a chicken. A sad and lonely depressed chicken. She is sending her Memaw off on Thursday and will be in tears as we drive home. And I being the WAY smart mom I am decided to take her out of school to spare her teacher a day of depression. So have no fear. If you hear this sound be reassured that the end of the world is NOT coming. But Brittanys is...

Mom of the year moment number 935,424
I have many "mom of the year" moments throughout my days but there are some that "take the cake" so to speak. Like sending my daughter to school without shoes, or realizing at 7:30am I have no milk and need to get the kids to school. This moment however involved my unborn chicken...
I was enjoying settling in for a REALLY good nights sleep, something that seems to allude me these past weeks, however, I was in that perfect "in-between" where everything just starts to slip away and your body feels like a weightless dream. Well apparently not everything had slipped away quite yet because I started to go over my day and was thinking about what we had for lunch, spaghetti, and what I had accomplished, laundry, made beds, cleaned out my purse FINALLY, emptied the trash, cleaned the floors....CLEANED OUT MY PURSE!!!!!
I sat up in bed and proclaimed "COBY!!! I threw away the BABY!!!"
My very groggy husband, looks at me and mumbles "what?"
"I THEW AWAY THE BABY!!!"
"what baby" he asks becoming a little more coherent.
"Chicken number 6!!!"
"What?"
"Well I was cleaning out my purse today and I threw away a couple magazines I was done with and the first ultra sound pictures where in them!!"
At this point I am frantically opening the trash bags and going through the grossness that is kitchen trash, because of course I decided to throw my unborn's pictures into the grossest trash there is.
So at 1am, my wonderful husband gets out of bed and assists the women who threw away his child, dig through the trash to find the first precious pictures we have of little chicken number 6. Through the tears, dirty diapers and spaghetti, and prayers there we find them, the magazines!! and still tucked safely inside are the photos from he ultra sound. Oh JOY!! What relief!! I promptly march them into our bedroom and put them on my mirror and proclaim..."Sorry baby, I will never do that again!!" all the while thinking..."but I may forget to send you a lunch to school, I very well may forget that special toy or blankie in another state at a motel and not realize it till the next day, and I will VERY likely send you to school without shoes. But I love you and thats about all I can offer. Love, your insane Mommy of 6."
Mom of the year. Mom of the year. I fully anticipate having MANY MANY more "mom of the year" moments as our family grows. Some you will be blessed to hear about, making you feel a little better about yourself, and some, well, some are just too "good" to blog about...

A study on sick chickens
Yet again I am faced with just how incredibly genius I am. You see, I have preformed another study on the lives of my chickens, this study was done when they were sick and in the grand tradition of chickens being, well, chickens I find this study rather interesting...
Subject: Chicken Number 1
Age: 11
Gender: Female
This chicken is timid and wants complete privacy when she relays the horrible truth that she is in fact sick. She does not want anyone to know and more over says she does not want anyone to fuss over her. The reality is she really wants the world to know that she is ill and wants the world to empathize with her.
Subject: Chicken Number 2
Age: 10
Gender: Male
This chicken comes to me and says "Mom, my throat feels weird." I then take him to the doctor and discover he has strep and a double ear infection. We learned early on that if THIS chicken complains about any aliment we rush him to the doctor. This chicken actually has to be tied to his bed when he is sick or he will be bouncing off the walls like he does every other day of the year.
Subject: Chicken Number 3
Age: 6
Gender: Male
This chicken likes to tell me he is sick when he is not so he can have the "Yummy Medicine". He rarely gets sick, but when he is lucky enough to do so he is thrilled and eagerly awaits the next dose of medication.
Subject: Chicken Number 4
Age: 5 (but she tells us she is 9)
Gender: Female
This chicken takes great delight in being sick as well and often patters into our room at night because she has a "sore stroke" and needs "grape medicine". She not only wants the world to know when she is sick but wants the world to stop dead in its tracks as well, a feat that we find hard to comply with. She moans, cries, whines, and mopes until the last drop of medicine is dispensed.
Subject: Chicken Number 5
Age: 16 months
Gender: Male
This chicken rarely complains of anything except when we tell him to stop crawling on the counter. When he gets sick he gets REALLY sick, and as is the trend with CN2 we rarely hear anything about it until he is VERY sick.
And so my loyal readers that is the "sick chicken study" in a nutshell. Hope you have gleaned much wisdom from reading and are better prepared for the sicknesses your chickens may have this year.

yet more random conversations with Cn4
"Mommy, do I have school today?"
"Yes"
"Well I think I may have a cough and a sore neck. yea and a icky stomach."
"Rebekah, you ARE going to school today."
"I know, but I think I need some of Daddys special medicine. You know the chocolate ones he keeps in his room."
"Rebekah, you are going to school and you are NOT eating candy before you get there. Go put your boots on."
"Well, ok, but my stomach still feels icky..."
